WHAT CAN STOP ME FROM GETTING MY MEDICAL CANNABIS CARD?
Illinois, individuals who hold a commercial driver's license (CDL) or work as firefighters or police officers are not eligible to obtain a medical cannabis card. This is because these professions are subject to federal regulations, which classify cannabis as a Schedule I drug and prohibit its use by individuals in safety-sensitive positions. Despite the legalization of medical cannabis in Illinois, these federal regulations take precedence and disqualify CDL holders, firefighters, and police officers from using medical cannabis. Therefore, those in these professions will have to seek alternative treatments for their medical conditions.
